Capra has always been known for showing characters that you have to appreciate. Italian-American director's ability to create lovable characters to the circumstances and again pushed to limit situations is unsurpassed. In "Mr. Smith Goes", a much better title than the bland Castilian "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" original, we are at a very young and idealistic James Stewart, little more than a boy-scout, embroiled in the murky affairs of a tycoon who controls all levels (policy, justice, media). Mr. Smith, warned of the deception and skullduggery in which they have placed, by a journalist back all (superbly played by Jean Arthur bellezón) and his colleague Diz Moore (once again we find the endearing Thomas Mitchell) will face the whole machinery of Taylor potentate only the rules of the Senate and supported by some kids using a viral buzz for support.
The film may look old (he has 72 years of age) but is cutting edge. See how the policy aligns with the magnates to enrich himself, even at the expense of the plundering of natural resources. The press, as a tool to discredit each other rather than as a tool of transmission of the truth, or at least the information. A group of young people who rebel against the established power and through viral campaigns carry the truth to its logical conclusion, even risking limb. All these issues we're looking at any information in 2011.
The scene in which James Stewart, almost defeated, hoarse, ragged, unshaven and still planting battle in the Senate does not leave you indifferent. I am always puts a lump in my throat, remembering so many battles fought and lost, but there was no other raids to do so. That is the legacy of "Mr. Smith Goes to" know that despite everything, there are battles to be fought because the bastards do not always get their way. As Capra is usual, the cast of players is immeasurable. Mention, in addition to Stewart, the silver knight, Claude Rains and the gorgeous Jean Arthur. Not to mention a few luxury side, as Mitchell, Arnold (Taylor mogul) and Carey (President of the Senate) that appears a few times, but it looks like.
yourself comfortable in the seats, and prepare to enjoy human kindness. Capra and Stewart did not disappoint.
