in Japan slumped and defeated after World War II, a few weeks before American troops arrived and changed the entire country, occupying it. We see a boy, Seita, a subway station in Kobe City, leaning on a column, dying. On his body, a small tin of fruit candies. A janitor, who is indifferent to the child's body, discovers the can and its contents, full of ashes. Not knowing what to do with the tin, pull the black of night ...
The can, the fall, it opens and relies in some way fireflies swarming outside the station. Accompanied by his light, we see emerge the spirits of Seita and Setsuko, who tell us their story. This is the beginning of the tomb of fireflies, a devastating history of animation by Isao Takahata, cofounder with his friend, the great master of Japanese animation, Hayao Miyazaki, Studio Ghibli's animation, the best and most prolific study of masterpieces of world animation. Takahata, had already made known to the world after its passage by Nippon Animation in which, next to Miyazaki, created 2 of the animated works of greater impact in our generation, its history and quality of the animation: Heidi and Marco. Away from the animated stories of the day (and epic fantasy), Takahata was a gap in the popular imagination throughout the world with stories of troubled children (orphans, troubled) where a jovial Heidi in the Austrian Alps and a willing Marco crossed the globe in search of his mother.
Grave of the Fireflies tells a story about the war, in which the protagonist is not war, but how they adapt and change people from the horrors of war. It is the story of an older brother who will do anything in their power to protect and care for her little sister. And is also a story with a dash must, of few words, but huge in emotions, that will not leave anyone indifferent.
